About Krav Maga: Krav Maga is the most tried and tested system of self defence and fighting skills in the World today. Krav Maga is used each and every day by military, law enforcement officers and security specialists in Israel. Krav Maga is also used by more than 400 law enforcement agencies, Military forces and special forces units from around the World. A most important fact About Krav Maga is every technique taught is tried and tested in the harsh reality of combat situations of Israel, not the local gym. Krav Maga is simple, if a technique works under pressure it’s in, if it doesn’t work under pressure, it’s out.
Krav Maga was created and developed by Imi Lichtenfeld for the the Israeli Defence forces (IDF) in the early 1940’s. A close quarters combat system was needed that had to be easy to learn and easy to retain. In the early days of israel’s foundation the soldiers didn’t have the luxury of a six month training programme. Krav Maga has been continuously developed and improved to stay up to date with changing times and changing problems people face around the World. Krav Maga is the only official system of defensive skills and close quarters combat of the IDF, the Israeli police ans Israeli intelligence services. Krav Maga entered cilvillian life in the mid-60’s when it was introduced to all schools in Israel as self defence, The self defence part of Krav Maga was born.
The most important principle About Krav Maga is that it is centred around the body’s natural instinctive behaviour and flinch responses. This means that Krav Maga is easy to learn, easy to retain and works under extreme pressure which is when you really need to rely on Krav Maga. With our unique system of teaching that was developed in the IDF you will learn up to six times faster than with the traditional teaching methods.. This means you will be more able to protect yourself even after the first lesson.
Training focuses on situational awareness, being able to identify possible confrontational situations and the possible “triggers” of a fight. The syllabi are written with due diligence and take into consideration that kids and teens (although generally trained seperately from adults) will be using the techniques. The same principles apply to every group; Mental, Techinical, Tactical and Physical. The teaching processes take into consideration the student, body type, fitness levels, age and possible disabilities for example.
Self preservation and self protection is a serious matter and nobody takes it more serious than we do. The lessons and courses are enjoyable and fun and you are encouraged to learn at your own speed.
Imi was still actively invloved with the development up uintil his death even after suffering a stroke.
