Alwyn is the Director and acting Chief Instructor for The IKMF – Thailand and has been teaching Krav Maga since qualifying as an IKMF instructor in 1996. Alwyn is responsible for launching the UK branch of the IKMF in 1995 together with Eyal Yanilov. Alwyn was the Director and Chief Instructor until 2000. Alwyn has given Krav Maga training to thousands of people around the World in regular classes, courses and seminars and is one of the most enlightening and entertaining and skilled instructors anywhere.
Due to his expertise in Krav Maga and Krav Maga Training Alwyn was featured almost every night on the Bravo series ‘Spymasters’ and has appeared on ITV’s ‘Members Only’ and BBC’s ‘Out and About’ with Sports presenter Rob Curly. He has also been featured in countless magazines and newspapers from The Sunday Times and The Observer through to GQ, Maxim and Time Out.
Alwyn started boxing at an early age and at the age of 15 started martial arts, studying Wado-Ryu karate and Shotokan Karate. Alwyn was fortunate enough to have studied under Sensei Meiji Suzuki and Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda.
Having worked in 21 different countries Alwyn was exposed to various self defence problems and through that the different solutions that these countries employ to these problems. One thing remained clear to Alwyn though and that was while most martial arts are great as a sport not many if any offer realistic self defense solutions.
Whilst working in Israel Alwyn was introduced to Krav Maga whilst visiting the family of a friend who had unfortunately been killed during the Lebanon conflict. The brother of Alwyn‘s friend was teaching Krav Maga and explained it’s principles to Alwyn. The fact that it is based on a person’s natural instinctive behaviour and therefore effective under extreme pressure intrigued Alwyn.
Alwyn’s business partner in Israel introduced him to Eyal Yanilov, the World’s leading practitioner of Krav Maga. This was back in 1993 and Alwyn then started his Karv Maga training with Eyal. It started with a one week intensive course which ran from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening which was then followed by training in one of the IKMF Clubs around Netanya and Haifa in the evening. Alwyn feels the training received from Eyal is second to none and is privileged to have gone through the rigorous regime with him.
In Alwyn’s opinion Krav Maga is the best and probably only true system of defensive tactics and fighting skills available anywhere in the World. It is proven not just in a gym or dojo but every day in real life situations with the military and police forces in Israel and around the World.
Alwyn continued his training with Eyal Yanilov over a couple of years and in 1995/6 Alwyn and Eyal ran a series of weekend training courses around the UK. The reception was so great they launched the International Krav Maga Federation (UK) and then started training instructors. Alwyn became the first IKMF qualified instructor in the United Kingdom in 1996. This qualification was also recognized by the Israeli Ministry of Education (Wingate Institute). Only 16 instructors in the United Kingdom ever had this qualification.
Since then Alwyn opened the Alwyn Dixon School of Krav Maga London which is still running although Alwyn does not teach there any more as he moved to Thailand in 2001.
The new school, Alwyn Dixon’s School of Krav Maga – Thailand, branded as Thailand Krav Maga, is centered in Phuket and will be expanding to Bangkok later this year. Thailand Krav Maga is affiliated to the IKMF and Alwyn is Director and acting Head Instructor of the IKMF-Thailand. Thailand Krav Maga will be offering the best in Krav Maga Training with regular classes and a wide variety of courses.
